Pupils from schools in Colne and young musicians from Pendle Music Centre will be opening Pendle Music Festival with a show stopping concert of their own work inspired by classical music.
This exciting opening concert brings together songs and music the pupils have created based on well known classical repertoire which has been developed through a series of workshops with musicians from the renowned Manchester Camerata.
In May this year Manchester Camerata and Lancashire Music Hub started a new project with the idea of engaging the 120 primary school children from four schools in Colne: Barnoldswick Primary School, Nelson Castercliff Primary School, West Street Community Primary School, and Christ Church Primary School. The project also worked with the young musicians from Pendle Music Centre strings and samba groups.
This promises to be an informative and fun style concert which will also provide an opportunity for audience members to learn about the instruments being showcased.
Every year, hundreds of primary school children from across East Lancashire get together for the Pendle Schools Festival to present a week long program of the arts; incorporating music, dance, painting, sculpture, drama and much more. The festival is a veritable feast of talent, presented by children as young as 5, many of whom get to experience their first ever footsteps into a theatrical space by participating in the event.
