Come and try something BIG!

We’re offering young people the very special opportunity to come and try two of the largest instruments – the tuba and the double bass!

Both these instruments are considered “endangered species” and we would love to give young people in Lancashire the chance to have a go, perhaps going on to join our ensembles at Music Centres and our County bands and orchestras.

These opportunities are suitable for students who are already playing a string or brass instrument but we also welcome complete beginners.

You can try the Double Bass at String Day on Sunday 16 February. Find out the details and book on to String Day by clicking here

Once you have booked your place on String Day, register your interest in trying the Double Bass by emailing cath.sewell@lancashire.gov.uk

We have some mini basses available but recommend you need to be about 9 or 10 years old to be big enough.

To try the Tuba, come along to the LYCB open day at 10am on Saturday 14 March. Find out details and book your place at the LYCB open day by clicking here

Once you have booked your place on the open day, register your interest in trying the Tuba by emailing cath.sewell@lancashire.gov.uk

Again, we recommend you need to be about 9 or 10 years old to be big enough to support the weight of the instrument. registering your interest in the tuba in advance by emailing  cath.sewell@lancashire.gov.uk

Both session are FREE and are taking place at Lostock Hall Academy, Todd Lane North, Lostock Hall, Preston, PR5 5UR. Places are limited so please do register your interest before you attend either session.

Following taster sessions, there will be the opportunity to sign up for FREE tuition for a term through Double Bass Club (on a Sunday morning alongside the orchestras) and Tuba Club (on a Saturday morning alongside our concert band). Instrument hire is also offered free of charge for all our endangered species.
