Lancaster & District Singing Festival – March 2018

In March this year more than 1300 local school children will come together to perform four  sold-out concerts at Ashton Hall, Lancaster.  The 70th Anniversary of the Lancaster and District Schools’ Singing Festival will see children between the age of 5 and 11 from 27 different primary schools from Lancaster, Morecambe and the surrounding districts, singing newly composed pieces, as well as pop songs and songs from around the world.

Aimed at Primary Schools to encourage singing and musical engagement the event is now in its 70th year, the event is run by the festival organising committee, supported by More Music for the Lancashire Music Hub.  The children learn their parts in school with help from their teachers and the project’s leaders and perform with a live band at the concerts.

The Key Stage 2 concerts are conducted by Emma Williams, Singing Leader for the Lancashire Music Hub and the Key Stage 1 concerts are conducted by Debbie Pilkington, Chair of the Festival and a teacher at St Wilfrid’s Primary School in Halton, supported by Emma.
