StringStars – New beginner violin group launched at Preston Music Centre…

Find Lessons

StringStars is a beginner violin group that runs every school week on Tuesdays at Preston Music Centre, Fulwood. The band has had great success over the past five years introducing primary school children to the wonders of playing a musical instrument.

A new beginners StringStars has been launched at the end of February and are looking for interested boys and girls to come along and join the session. The group is aimed at complete beginners and will be taught by violin specialist, Rodger Boyes.

Rodger is a renowned performer and experienced Lancashire Music Service teacher. His vision is to take this group of young people with no experience of playing a string instrument and turn them into an ensemble that performs regularly to a high standard. At the same time, the emphasis will very much be on having fun, playing lots of well-known tunes and making new friends.

StringStars is for children in Years 3 to 6 and lessons take place between 4 and 5pm on Tuesdays. Lancashire Music Service will generously provide the free loan of a violin for the rest of the school year up to July and the cost is just £30 – just £2 per week for expert coaching!

In previous years demand for places has been high. If you would like your child to participate in this exciting new local to Preston ensemble or want to find out more, please call Nick Powlesland (Area Team Leader Lancashire Music Service/Head of Preston Music Centre) on 07887 831564 or email nicholas.powlesland@lancashire.gov.uk.

Lancashire Music Service runs a network of music centres throughout the County where young musicians of all levels of experience can play together in bands and ensembles and sing in choirs, offering an ideal progression route from Whole Class Ensemble Tuition alongside opportunities for more advanced students.
