Manchester Camerata

Manchester Camerata’s vision is to redefine what an orchestra can do. The orchestra is renowned for dynamic performances and innovative collaborations, having opened Glastonbury festival in 2017 with Hacienda Classical and receiving the Royal Philharmonic Society’s ‘ensemble of the year’ award.

The Camerata in The Community programme began over 20 years ago and uses music as a tool to improve the quality of life of people of all ages.

The programme has two strands: Schools and Health & Wellbeing. Projects take place across the North West in schools, community centres, care homes, day care centres and hospitals.

Projects are co-designed with partners to meet the needs of participants, who are placed at the centre of the creative experience and are supported by Manchester Camerata professional musicians and composers. New music is created on every project, consisting of both structured compositions and improvised pieces which are created ‘in the moment’.
