Why support us?

Music means something to all of us – it is part of and enriches our daily lives. We firmly believe that all children and young people should be able to access musical education, regardless of their individual circumstances or background.

We provide financial assistance to help the young people of Lancashire achieve their musical potential, supporting those who don’t qualify for financial assistance under existing schemes. We support students at any stage of their musical journey, ensuring that cost is not a barrier to progression and ambition.

Your support will enable young musicians in Lancashire to:

  • access high quality instrumental and vocal lessons
  • attend ensembles, masterclasses and workshops, including County Ensembles
  • purchase or hire an instrument
  • help fund exam entries and auditions
  • take part in concerts, residential courses and music tours

Make a donation

We have made donating as easy as possible – online donations are made through the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF), ensuring that all transactions are secure.

You can make a one-off donation or create a regular payment.

Clicking on DONATE NOW will take you to our donation page on CAF.

About FLCE

The Friends of Lancashire County Ensembles is a registered charity whose objective is to advance the musical education of children and young people resident in Lancashire. The charity grew out of the previous Friends Charities for the Lancashire Youth Orchestra and Concert Band.

The board is made up of alumni, professional musicians, parents, teachers, and a representative from the Music Service.

All trustees value the effect that music has had on their lives and on their children’s lives and uphold the belief that music education shouldn’t be the preserve of those who can afford it. It is these values that led to the development of the Lancashire Young Musicians’ fund, along with the recognition of the importance of ensemble activities in music education.

The charity is linked to Lancashire Music Service and together, we know we can help to enrich lives through music for many years to come.

Our constitution and related documents can be found on the Charities commission website.

Fantastic news for one of our Lancashire Yamaha Youth Ambassadors and member of Lancashire Youth Brass Band- the very talented, and all round nice guy - Joseph! #WhereWillMusicTakeYouFreckleton Band are thrilled to welcome the exceptionally talented Joseph Glew as their new Principal Cornet! At just 16, Joe is already making waves in the brass band world, and the band are excited for him to bring his energy and experience to the team. Joe’s musical journey began at the tender age of 7 with the Red Admiral Music Academy, and he has since blossomed under the guidance of Daniel Brooks and more recently the teachings of Andrew Lofthouse. His accolades include leading Red Admiral to a National Finals spot and clinching the "Most Outstanding Player" award. Joe has also shone brightly with the Lancashire Youth Brass Band, Elland Youth Silver Band, and graced prestigious venues with the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain.Recently Joe has gained valuable experience with the famous Leyland Band that has put him in good stead to become our Principal Cornet! As Joe prepares to study Music Performance and Music Production A Levels at Cardinal Newman College, the band are excited to support his continued growth and look forward to many memorable performances together. The band have been looking for a long-term Principal Cornet for nearly four years and would like to thank the many guests and friends of the band who have stepped in to the hot seat for concerts as well as contests!Musical Director, John Atkinson, says “I am thrilled to welcome Joe to the band - for a player so young, he has a maturity to his playing beyond his years and has so much potential!I have been aware of his playing for quite some time now and I have always been impressed by his warm sound and lyrical phrasing. Couple that with his technical prowess and a wide range, he is already a great cornet player and a huge asset to the band.I am looking forward to working more closely with Joe and seeing him flourish into a star of the future!”It is an exciting time at Freckleton Band, with the fourth place result at the North West Regional Championships securing their position in the top section and an exciting roster of concerts and contests planned for the remainder of 2026. Joe, along with all the band’s soloists, will be showcased at the band’s upcoming concert at Lytham Methodist Church on Saturday 6th June. ... See MoreSee Less
