LANCASHIRE YOUTH STREET BAND HONK, has been selected to perform at this year’s Music for Youth Proms 2026, taking place at the Royal Albert Hall in London on 9th November 2026.
The Music for Youth Proms is one of the UK’s most prestigious youth music events, bringing together over 3,000 young performers from across the country for two spectacular evenings of live music on 9 and 10 November 2026. From gospel choirs to jazz orchestras, marching and steel pan bands to rock and pop groups the Proms showcase the extraordinary range and vitality of young musical talent nationwide.
HONK will join over 1,500 other young musicians on the night, performing Shut Up and Dance (originally by Walk the Moon) and Get Lucky (originally by Daft Punk)
“To be invited to perform at the Music for Youth Proms at the Royal Albert Hall is a tremendous achievement and a reflection of the dedication, talent and hard work of these young musicians and their teachers.
We are incredibly proud to see Lancashire’s young people representing the county on one of the world’s most prestigious stages. This is a moment they will remember for many years to come, and we wish them every success as they showcase their musical excellence alongside other outstanding groups from across the UK.”
Tim Rogers, Head of Service, Lancashire Music Service
The 2026 Proms will also feature the world premiere of As I Rise, a major commission by composer James B.Wilson with lyrics by poet and recent Children’s Laureate Wales, Alex Wharton. Celebrating human ambition and innovation, inspired by NASA’s Artemis missions that orbited the moon for the first time since the Apollo missions in 1969; As I Rise brings together a massed children’s choir and full orchestra in a spectacular collaboration commissioned in partnership with BBC Ten Pieces, ABRSM, and the Royal Albert Hall.
Now in its 51st year, the Music for Youth Proms continue to celebrate young people’s creativity and commitment to music-making across the UK. Founded in 1975 (originally as the Schools Prom), the event has provided early performance opportunities for some of Britain’s leading musicians, including Nigel Kennedy, Dame Evelyn Glennie and Nicholas Daniel.
Phil Castang MBE, CEO of Music for Youth, said: “The Music for Youth Proms showcases the brilliance of young musicians from across the whole UK. It is a show like no other and recognises that young people make great music and can captivate audiences on the most important stages.”
The Music for Youth Proms 2025 are supported by Arts Council England, the National Education Union, ABRSM, and the Musicians’ Union.
