NYJO North-West Jazz Futures Project

We’re creating a brand new ensemble made up of creative young musicians who want to share their music.

Working alongside NYJO musicians and tutors, you will create an exciting, jazz-inspired, live performance to inspire the next generation and take part in a tour of jazz festivals and schools in Summer 2023.

We’re recruiting..

Creative musicians playing any instrument (including voice and music tech) across all genres who are interested in improvisation and jazz influences and would like to work collaboratively to create a new ensemble.

You should be aged between 14 and 19, be taking your music seriously and be performing at an intermediate/advanced level.

What you’ll get out of it:

  • The chance to collaborate with an inspiring team of tutors and like-minded musicians
  • You’ll develop your improvisation and arrangement skills
  • Leadership, communication, and presentation skills
  • Opportunities to perform at festivals and in schools and community spaces
  • Being part of a high-profile project working with internationally renowned partners, NYJO

What’s the commitment:

You’ll need to attend workshops during half term and Easter on the following dates:

Wednesday 26th and Thursday 27th October 2022, 10am – 3.30pm both days

Thursday 16th and Friday 17th February 2023, 10am – 3.30pm both days

Thursday 13th and Friday 14th April, 10am – 3.30pm both days with a launch gig on 14th April

There will then be gigs during the first weekend of May, then again after the exam period in late June/July, with a final potential gig in early September.

Workshops will be held at Runshaw College.

While we know young musicians have many other commitments, we need good attendance to make the project happen. Please contact us if you have any questions about the commitment.
