Lancashire Schools Concert Band
Formed in 1976, the Lancashire Youth Concert Band (LYCB) is one of Lancashire’s County Ensembles.

The Lancashire Schools Concert Band is made up of brass and wind players, and orchestral percussionists. Musicians of Grade 2+ standard are welcome to join us. You do not need to have taken an official exam to become a member; if you have been playing your instrument for around 2 years or more and are a confident music reader, please contact us to find out more.
The band rehearses and perform in a wide variety of musical styles, from traditional marches and orchestral transcriptions to arrangements of music from west end musicals, movies, and even Rock and Pop. Our choice of repertoire is designed to engage and challenge all our young musicians.
Rehearsals are held approximately every two weeks, beginning at 10.am and ending at 3.30pm. Commitment and attendance at rehearsals and concerts is extremely important. Potential new members are welcome to come for a free trial rehearsal. Please do let us know if you would like to visit us ahead of time, by emailing mark.waltho@lancashire.gov.uk
More advanced members of the Schools Concert Band who are grade 5+ meet during each rehearsal day to form the Lancashire Youth Wind Ensemble. This smaller group rehearses and performs more advanced concert band music under the direction of Mark Waltho.
The Schools Concert Band is included in the Gold Level Subscription. This means if you are already a member of another Lancashire County Ensemble, you can also attend the Schools Concert Band, or Youth Wind Ensemble, for no extra cost.
Novice musicians interested in joining a concert or brass band are welcome to attend the Brass, Wind and Percussion Inspire group. This group also rehearse at St. Michael’s High School on the same day as the Schools Concert Band, but for a shorter time in the mornings
