The Lancashire Accessible Instrument and Technology Library V 2.0
Welcome to the Lancashire Accessible Instrument and Technology Library
The aim of the library is for every young person to have an instrument that meets their interests, abilities and needs, and for teachers to be able to use it effectively in both curriculum and instrumental teaching contexts.
The library has been developed based on four principles:
- Young-person centred - Instrument choice & pedagogy begins with the needs of the young person
- Comprehensive - The library speaks to the full range of needs found in both mainstream and specialist settings, including alternative provision.
- Responsive - All aspects of the library have been developed in partnership with music teachers across Lancashire
- Useable by all - Accompanying resources are accessible to both specialist music teachers and generalist classroom teachers
The instruments can be used in instrumental and curriculum music contexts and in both mainstream and specialist settings.
You can then investigate each instrument further using the tabs on the left and by watching the ‘in action’ and ‘how to’ videos.
The Lancashire Accessible Instrument & Technology Library has become an invaluable resource for schools and educators across the county, helping more children and young people access meaningful musical experiences through inclusive instruments and technology.
Building on the success of the original library, Version 2.0 introduces a range of new instruments, apps, teaching resources and video guides, giving educators even more tools to support creative music-making for learners of all abilities.
We are delighted to have worked in partnership with pBone Music on this latest phase of the project. Their expertise and commitment to accessible music education have helped us further develop a resource that continues to break down barriers and create new opportunities for young people across Lancashire.
How to find the right instruments for your pupils
Begin by watching the library intro video above to get an overview of the options. You can then investigate each instrument further using the tabs on the left and watching the ‘in action’ and ‘how to’ videos.
What’s in the library?
Each of the instruments comes with a set of video and text resources that accompany each of the instruments in the library.
For schools who use Charanga (free licences for all specialist schools in Lancashire), you can also find videos that show areas of the Charanga platform that work particularly well with the hardware.
The library will evolve in time, responding to new innovations. It currently consists of:
